Toughened Glass

Toughened or tempered glass is a type of safety glass that has been processed by controlled thermal treatment, to increase its strength compared with normal glass. Toughened glass is made through a process which creates balanced internal stresses, this gives the glass five times the strength of float glass.

Toughened glass will usually shatter into small fragments instead of sharp shards when broken, making it less likely to cause severe injury and deep lacerations. As a result of its safety and strength, achieving BS 6206, toughened glass is used in a variety of demanding applications.

Typically used for:

  • AP glass doors, shower doors and all glass shopfronts.
  • Balustrades and bolted glass assemblies.
  • Shelves and table tops.
  • Single and double glazing.

Toughened glass from Wholesale Glass is processed in various types and thicknesses, including:

Clear, low iron, low-emissivity, satin, a wide range of tinted solar control, anti-sun grey / bronze / green / blue, self-cleaning and various patterns.

4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 15mm, 19mm.
